Intranet for Banking Staff

Business Needs

Challenge

Established in Northern Virginia in 2004, Main Street Bank offers services to both business communities and consumers. The bank operates five branches in Herndon, Fairfax, Fairfax City, McLean, and Clarendon. Main Street Bank isn’t restricted to a conventional branching system. It offers business customers access to banking services through a robust and easy-to-use online platform.

However, they lacked an intranet portal for their employees, which would allow them to collaborate and share documents. The bank needed a reliable financial intranet system to merge multiple business processes and departments into a single source of information and data. That’s why the organization approached us to assist them in building a secure intranet portal with message boards, chat system, newsfeed, and other features.

We support. We improve.

Solution

Developing intranet software for banks requires a comprehensive approach that prioritizes security, compliance, usability, and scalability.

After drawing up the project strategy, we went on to conduct business analysis and gather requirements. In addition to running multiple facilitating sessions with various stakeholders to understand their expectations, this involved a six-week onsite assessment of existing processes, underlying technologies, and legacy applications as well as defining the client’s requirements for the future solution and selecting the technology stack.

With the client’s requirements in mind, our designers started to create the design for the solution, prioritizing intuitive navigation, clear information architecture, and responsive design. Once the design was approved, the development team got down to building the portal.

During the entire development process, from initiation to implementation, we worked closely with the client, leveraging our proven research methodology, using best practices to highlight additional capabilities and considerations, and leading the Main Street Bank team through a structured process with clearly identified deliverables. Our team utilized a combination of business impact, technical complexity, and organization readiness to prioritize the identified action items for the project.

Based on this assessment, we developed a solution roadmap, which included:

  • Information architecture and site architecture
  • Metadata and taxonomy definition and management
  • Simplification and standardization of content types
  • Definition of the layouts and the master page requirements
  • Content migration strategy
  • Reusable content and media
  • User search and organization charts
  • Content publishing workflows and governance
