Every day, people with hearing issues face barriers and challenges that lead to miscommunication. The problem gets even more serious in medical settings, where healthcare providers usually wear face coverings that make lip reading impossible.

Solution

We conducted a discovery phase, which allowed us to better understand the client’s expectations for the project and define clear requirements. Besides enabling the mentioned function — converting voice into text and transmitting it to the smart badge — there were some other important points we had to take into account.

First of all, it was crucial that the application ensure a smooth connection between the badge and a smartphone without any disruptions or disconnects. Secondly, the smart badge technology had to support the integration across various operating systems and smartphone models. Also, we were requested to design a simple and user-friendly interface and integrate voice commands for device control.

Once the design was approved, we started building software for the client’s hands-free hospital communication system, which involved:

  • creating an app for seamless control and management of the device
  • implementing encryption protocols to secure the transmission of voice data between the badge and smartphone, addressing privacy and security concerns
  • designing robust and well-documented APIs for communication between the badge and smartphone
  • creating detailed technical documentation for developers, system administrators, and end users
  • implementing a speech recognition functionality
  • integrating performance monitoring tools to track the system's performance in real time, allowing for proactive optimization and addressing potential bottlenecks
  • In addition, we conducted a series of training sessions to ensure that users can effectively operate and troubleshoot the badge and smartphone connection.
